Well it depends on if your talking about the Clawhammer (athlon64) or the Sledgehammer (Opteron)? Sorry, just a quick reply, i think i remember some info at toms hardware & maybe anandtech....
From what i remember but its probably way off, 512k L2 cache, 3600+ rating @ 1.6Ghz, 166Mhz FSB is expected @ introduction for the Athlon64....

If only we could be lucky enough for AMD to release a chip within three months of when they say. Latest reports from AMD push the chip back to September (about the the time Intel plans to unleash Prescott).
Seeing as the Bartons came out at 166MHz FSB, that is probable for the Athlon64 as well. By September, however, optimists say they might be able to crank the chip up to 200MHz FSB, which is where Prescott is going to be.
I was overjoyed when I first heard reports of this chip, but now I'm starting to fear for AMD. If the Hammer had come out in Jan-Feb (like originally promised), they would be on top. Unfortuantely, due to clock generator problems, it keeps falling back until now they're struggling to build the chip with equal specs as the one Intel is about to put out.
I fear they might be relying too heavily on the 64-bit bus. It's awesome technology, but if they fall behind on clock, FSB, etc. it will never get it's due.

It was actually suppose to be released like a year ago. Release time pushed backed several times.

True, I mean - September???? Intel's going to unleash Prescott at that time, and I'd find it hard to say that AMD could fall back easily from that release
REalize - there's lots to be found in 32-bit technology, now approaching 64-bit
Sooner or later, all the potential possible in 64-bit technology may be all used up
I mean, there's only so much you can squeeze out of one technology |

Good news cometh from this article, also eluded to in one of the news posts here at TechIMO. At least one of my fears is put to rest.
Humorous side note: VIA has returned to making "A" versions of their chipsets, which they vowed against then the KT333 came out! |
