| AMD XP FSB and multipliers
I have looked all over AMD's site and I cannot tell what FSB and multiplier each of their XPs run at. Am I missing something obvious? I want to start tweaking my Epox EP-8RDA+ and XP1700+ up tonight like Endobiotic and I thought I would go from XP1700+ settings to XP1800+ settings as a first step.
Or should I just keep nudging up my FSB until I feel like stopping and letting it run for a while to determine that it is stable?
I suppose the speeds of each of the AMD chips is at is somewhat arbitrary and nothing more than marketing so it doesn't really matter if I nudge up to a specific speed. I just thought it would be interesting to see what XP CPU equivalent I can get this sucker up to.
Thanks for the feedback.
By the way, what are some of the good Windows XP based utilities I can use to monitor this with instead of going back into Bios? |

A nice utility that is pretty much gonna answer your question about what the FSB and multiplier of your CPU is WCPUID
It also gives a LOT of info about your mobo and video card.
This is not a monitoring utility for temps, fans, etc . . .
I don't have a chart of AMD XP processor clock speeds, if I wanna know, I just google the "XP1700" for example, and find it. An XP1700+ btw is 11X133=1446MHz.
There are a ton more utilities and such that you could use, this one should get you started in the right direction. |

Thanks EvilRick. I just got lazy and switched the BIOS from Optimal to Turbo and am cruising with that. Unfortunately, I don't know what the settings are at so I am going to have to go into Expert and manually set them. |

They should probably be at 11 (multiplier) and 133 (FSB).
Switching between 'Optimal' and 'Turbo', probably just set more aggresive memory settings.
Unless your CPU is "unlocked", you won't be able to change the multiplier, just the FSB. |

All XP1700+ are on a 133mhz(double-pumped) FSB.

jdurbin - please let me know if you have any success with multipliers higher than 12.5. My setup just forced it to 11x100 when I tried 13x or higher.
For a general idea of the speed/rating ratio, I always just go to newegg. They've kindly listed all their XPs individually, as well as the actual speed they run at.
For starters, I'd just leave the FSB at 133 and push your multiplier as high as it can go. If you can only use up to 12.5, that should still give you plenty of headroom. Also, I'm pretty confident your system will post at speeds well beyond the point at which it is stable enough to run windows. So I wouldn't hesitate to jump from 133 to 140, to 150, to 160 for starters. If you get to a place where it won't post, clearing the CMOS should do the trick. If it's still no go, the extra things I had to do should get you up and running again.
Good luck! And I seriously hope you can get as much or more than I got! Let us know where you end up at. |

It is a Thorougghbred but I do not know if it is an "A" or "B".
I went to newegg and they list the speed but not the combination of multiplier and FSB to get to the speed.
Evil, I checked under the WCPUID and the multiplier and FSB were the same but I did notice that the memory timings changed in the BIOS when I made the change. I will go back into BIOS to tweak up. |
