I have a slocket for slot 1 to socket 370 conversion. Never used one before.
What is the general idea behind slockets..in other words what are the rules of thumb to follow?
I see that mine has jumpers for voltage PLUS it has a jumper for auto voltage which is definitely what I would use.
But what about bios concerns etc??
For example I have an AL440lx intel board, slot 1, it only takes up to a 450 celly....so what good will a regular slocket do for me in that case??
I know that there are now the new slocket type adapters that allow for tualitans on slot 1 boards etc but I am talking about plain old school slokets.
Do they give me the ability to use processors that are faster than the board normally supports??
How do I know what cpus a slocket will allow me to use??
Any general facts about slokets will help me a good deal.
thanks, JP

the 440LX chipset officially supports up to 450mhz. but I've seen sites where people have taken a slocket and used a Celeron 740(I think) or the last celeron that ran on a 66mhz FSB.

but HOW?? that is the question...are you talking about just running a higher fsb?
I dont see adjustments in the bios for that or muliplier adjustments on my board.

Well the multiplier is locked on the proccesor so it has to be on a 66mhz fsb. If you use a processor that runs on a 100mhz fsb then it will run about 44% slower. |

The 766 was the last to be 66MHz fsb: http://www.intel.com/pressroom/kits/quickreffam.htm
Some slockets with jumpers were able to override the BIOS limitations. It has been a long time since I used these, so I can not remember what the limitations were. It seemed to matter which chipset, but which ones escape me. I remember that the MSI slockets and the ABit slockets were the best. Many generics didn't come with jumpers, but you said yours does, so it might override the BIOS. Sorry I can't give any more concrete info. I'll see what I can find. |

You don't have to make any multiplier adjustments because the multiplier is locked on the processor and the FSB can be changed but only through softFSB but even then you can only get it to about 75mhz before experiancing stababtility probs. |

So if I have a 766 celly I can use it with a slocket on a slot 1 board??
And if I have a 100mhz fsb slot one board then I can use a fast P3 perhaps, with a slocket??
What about something like the everpresent Dell optiplex GX1 P2-450 type computers..they are 100mhz fsb...what could I put in one of those with a slocket??
