Epox 8RDA+ / 2100XP tbred B / Kingston 2100 DDR 1GB
I built two systems same exact specs except for the video card and heatsink, one for me, one for my step dad
VideoCard -
Me: Xtasy Geforce3 ti200
Him: Gainward Geforce3 ti200
Heatsink -
Me: SLK-800
Him: Zalman Copper Flower /w 120MM fan
Now i got my system setup, runs perfect, overclocked it to 2.1Ghz, went over to set his system up tonight, and set it to 166FSB like mine is. His would do the post, but when it went into the second post stage on the 8RDA+ it stayed black and didn't boot. But when i put it back to 133FSB it worked fine. What is up with this? |

Well, not all processors are made the same. Not even in the same batch of processors will 2 be guaranteed to perform equally. Make sure these are both T-Bred B.
This link will show you how to tell them apart: http://www.overclockers.com/articles682/index02.asp
Try stepping up the fsb slowly. The key to OCing is patience and slowly finding the sweetspot of the processor stability-wise. The difference in coolers could have a little to do with it, but I just think you got a better processor. |

We bought 2 tbred b's via newegg at the same time.
Is there any way to tell without taking off the heatsink? |

Yup no 2 cpus are the same, even if you both them at the same time..... even if they were made one after another.....
Even tho you can't hit 166, you can try 150, 140, 145 etc ..... to find the CPU's zone.... Also did you adjust the voltage? Its not good to jump so much without slight increments.
Unless I am wrong, I believe this is something to do with what they call the "yield", correct me if I am wrong please.

You mean you set his FSB to 166MHz directly?!
Without the step-by-step method and testing? No voltage increase for the CPU or the RAM?
Also like Dave said, not all the CPU should be expected to OC the same. You result may vary even with an identical system.
CPU quality depends on your luck and you can not check it out. |

Check your Power Supply too. Mine is a 250 and OCing over 106% is out.

Plus you can't expect all PC2100 ram to hit DDR333. That's why its being sold as 2100. about 60% is stuff that failed the tests at that speed and has been marked down.

give it a little time. Do some cpu burn ins. I couldnt oc my 1700+ even a little when I first got it but after a while it let me. Now I can oc the FSB to 147 without any problems. OCd to FSB 150 but experienced problems like 3dmark2001se not finishing benchmark. Tbred A. |

He uped the voltage, works fine now...
I oced it by mistake on the first bootup, had a few programs and uped the agp voltage by mistake and that fixed it |
