In new to overclocking. Currently, I have an atlon xp 1800+ .13 micron. I heart that the T-BRED-B AIUHB processors have great potential for overclocking. Please give me any suggestions on what I can do to maximize my potienial.
Here is what Im running:
giga-byte 7vaxp ultra
512 mb pc 2700
I've got a thermaltake volcano9 on the cpu currently.
Thanks |

Right, the multiplier for your CPU is adjustable via a jumper on your motherboard. See your manual. The FSB is adjustable via the BIOS setup.
I would say start by bumping up the FSB until if starts crashing or odd things happen. Only do it a bit at a time though, and do something to stress the machine each time you increase it to check it is stable (Such as run 3dmark for a couple of hours)
Once if becomes unstable you have a number of options:
1) increase the voltage to the chip. This will increase the amount of heat it pust out as well. Only do this as much as necesary, and if you don't get much more out of th cpu it would be best to knock the speed back down and lower the voltage again as this can lower the chips life expectancy. Don't bother putting the voltage above 1.85 as this could well permanently damage your chip.
2) Leave it be and be content with your overclock.
Another approach you could take is to up the multiplier first, then when you hit the limit with that, up the FSB.
The RAM should be good for at least 166mhz (333ddr) as it's PC2700, so if you have problems after that FSB, it may not be the CPU.
Nice mobo BTW.

I looked over the cpu and it turns out its a t-bredA. Once I tried bumping the fsb to about 147-150 or 1690-1725 Mhz, I had troubles running applications or 3dmark. I put the voltage up +5% and no difference. I then chane the muliplier to 12 and tried up to 144 to make it to a 2100xp. But that was as far as I could put it. I tried upping the voltage by +5% again and no luck. So now i got it sitting at 1691.75 @ 141 Mhz. I'll run 3dmark for a while and see how it runs. The temps seem pretty good. It runs at 34C idle and up to 38C. When I increased the voltage, the Idle temp was at 41C, but I wasnt able to do much. Let me know if you have any other suggestions.
Thanks

I messed around with it again tonight. I set the multipliers to 12.5 and put the bus up to 140, I had to put the voltage up by +5. Now its at 1750 and it's pretty stable. I think I might let it sit at that for now as I really had no reason to oc in the first place |
