Go for it. I have the 6500 and love it. It can be turned down to silent mode. Not good for high overclocking though.

IMO, i was just not impressed by that HSF combo when compaired to others. I saw that at QuakeCon 2002 and those pc's with those ran hotter (like 10 to 20 celcius more) than those with (for example) a Thermal Take Volcano 7. Not to mention a couple of bucks less than the HSF you are wanting.

I would spring for better HSF, IMO. Try for the Thermal Take Volcano 9. Lots of CFM and RPMS to use. You won't be sorry.

It's extremely quiet. Love it.

Temperature for my 1200+ (old stuff are hotter, right??) is 48~50C. Goes up to 56C max when full load for a long while.

One thing to keep in mind is, after you quiet down your CPU fan, other stuff will sounds extremely loud. You won't believe how annoying the HD sounds is. But this fan still helps.

Not recommended for OC thou.

thanks for your input, its always good to ask the voice of experience in these matters. i have a volcano 7 on a xp1600 right now with a soltek sl 75drv5 purpleray and i have a asus p4 s333 w/1.5ghz and a stock cooler. both have alot of fan noise so i'm trying to quiet things down yet keep reasonably cool. besides i pull the side off all 4 of my boxes all the time" i have 2 p3 machines as well". i can put another hsf on in a short time if i decide to overclock.
