When we will begin to see some Athlons 64 around. I`ve heard that with a 1.8Ghz and a 9700 PRo scored a little less than 16000 3Dmarks!
It`s going to be sweet if that is true.
And the motherboards? Did any company announced them yet? |

I can't help but feel something feels fishy about Athlon64. AMD has been going on and on about how great it is going to be but in that case, why haven't they released it yet? They keep pushing it back farther... I hope it doesn't go the way of the Nvidia GeforceFX 5800 Ultra!

What's so fishy about it?
The server version is going to be released in a little over a week, and distributers already have access to significant quantities of the chips: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=8900
The lower-clocked, smp capable version that'll make them a nice, fat margin will be out a while, and some people will end up sticking them in home boxes I'm sure, then when Sept. rolls around, everyone will be ready with workable drivers and such for windows and it will be out.
I don't know why they would push the release back if they're already in the hands of large distributers.

Honestly I think what AMD is doing is kinda smart I mean if they were to implement the Athlon 64 right when hey had a manufacturable version then the shelf life of the Socket A platform would have died out as fast as Socket 423.
because of this people who used Socket A 2 years ago can still upgrade today instead of having to deal with a new socket platform upgrade every 6 months. I'm surprised that Socket 478 has lasted as long as it has coming from Intel.
Though honestly I'm not buying another AMD product until the Athlon 64 comes out... and YES it will be worth it IMHO. |

You know folks, when something's supposed to be going into the Server marketplace, you release it when it's done, tried and tested. Customers here have zero tolerance.
On the desktop, where the leading edge customers want NEW and FAST not reliable (your own fault!), stuff gets released as soon as it's technically completed. Testing will be done by the early enthusiast. |

I was just saying it was kinda suspicious. I am probably being too critical however. It was a little odd and annoying that it was constantly pushed back. I did not know about the samwichse's post however. Hopefully Athlon64 will gain AMD some ground after losing to P4 for awhile. |

oh wow...I didn`t know they were pushing it back every time.
Well...I hope when it comes out it will be worth it. I changed my CPU to the cheapest Barton to buy the Athlon 64 when it will come out.
So there will be two version of it. Desktop and Server.
Let`s hope it will be a killer CPU |
