Best thing to get thermal pad off of cpu?

I am going to buy an aeroflow HS/F and would like to know is the best thing to use to get the thermal pad off my CPU that has melted on it? Or do thermal pads not melt to the CPU like thermal grease?

The thermal pad will leave residue on your cpu. White crud...

I usually use a razorblade to scrape off all the superficial stuff and clean it off completely with acetone. If you can't get pure acetone, nailpolish remover should work fine. make sure you give it a final rub with a clean, dry cloth and let it dry.

Acetone dries without leaving any kind of film.

I agree with prexaspes especially with the use of asetone because even if you remove it all(all that you can see) there is still a layer of residue you can't see left.

skuz did you mean plastic ruler. If so that would be a good idea because metal would leave microscopic valleys in the HSF and would degrade cooling. A credit card would also work.
