First the stats;
ECS K7S5A ver.3
XP 2000+ w/ retail hs/f - thermal pad
PNY GF4 Ti 4200 64mb DDR
512mb PC2100
16x DVD-rom
24x10x40 CD-RW
CaseEdge case w/ 340w power supply
Front low ballbearing fan intake - 80 mm
Rear high ballbearing fan exhaust - 80 mm
When I first built this machine, my temps at idle were around 39c.
lately, it is frequently above 60c and flaky. It ran for months perfectly at good temps but now heat issues. It is in a cabinet along with the dsl modem, router, laser printer and ups. I took off the cabinet doors so no one else could close them.
My next option is to reset the cpu with ASIII and install some sort of cabinet intake fan. Why did my temps go through the roof all of a sudden? I'm not planning on upgrading the cpu anytime soon so maybe a bigger super hs/f. Suggestions? |

Have you checked the seating of the heat sink yet? Might want to look at that.
Thermal pads very rarely ever help cooling. I'd clean that off and go with some ASIII just because it's a better idea. Also, make sure the CPU fan is spinning at the right speed. Never know. Lots of dust can cause problems. |

It could be the changes in the weather. Or, you may have something running in the background, that wasn't there before. |

Check the power supply exhaust fan. I've seen 'em stopped running a lot.

Using compound instead of pad lowered the temp by 2 degrees.
Oh wow !!
Maybe one fan failed ? |

If the latter is the case, don't worry. I see that you have the retail version, and it carries a three year warranty. |

I've had the same problems with my ECS K7S5A pro could it be just something with the sensors on the boards? my temps have stayed low {around 50c at full load} but not as low as I'd like. Especially with summer coming up.

Hmm interesting I found my board won't run stable at normal timings 133mhz cpu and 133 mhz ram because it runs too hot with a constant load I've been checking temp and setting with speed fan 4.08 and with bios both and so far haven't gotten over 52c but it locks up at that temp
