2800+ Barton & Asus A7N8X Deluxe OC'ing Help

There's a few things I don't understand here. First I'll start with what I've done successfully. I slowly increased the FSB until i hit 190. This gave me a FSB of 380MHz and the CPU went from 2.08 to 2.39MHz. Heres where it gets confusing to me. when i increase it to 191 the timing drops to 160...why is that? Another question...When I increase the multiplier from 12.5 to 13 my CPU drops to 900MHz....why is that? Any help or insight would be appriciated.

Hmm. Try the asus nforce2 forums for specifics BUT its yer bios really doing all that crazy stuff. Did ya flash it. Cause the older bios doesnt recognise the newest bartons too well. Should be running 1002. Are you? And I think you mean the Asus A7N8X deluxe.

yeah you're right i do mean A7N8X Deluxe. its Rev 2.0 1002.

Also if I come across minor instabilty at 190 2.39GHz would increasing the CPU voltage a little help?

ok the multiplier problem. If you have a processor that uses under a 13 multiplier, i don't think there is a way to access 13+
Ok to my understanding here is the deal. processors that use under a 13x multiplier interpret a binary number from the motherboard as the multiplier. It has 3 things to the left of the decimal and one to the right(I believe 1 would be .5 and 0 would be 0 in this case). The cpu adds 5 to the multiplier number. Therefore the maximum multiplier would be 111.1 + 5 which would be 7.5+5 or 12.5. When you set it to 13 for example the binary number the mobo sends out would be 1000.0 +5 , but the cpu would only read the last 4 digits 000.0 which is 0+5 and your multiplier is 5. I've read this in a few places after i discovered i could not put multiplier past 12.5

edit: I hope this makes sense!

Do a google search for AMD wire trick or unlocking the AMD.

I'm not up on the asus, but if 191 don't do it try 192.

Here's a great thread on your board:
