| Heard of Vcool?
Hi gang. Y'all hear of vcool? I downloaded it today as my chipset are supported. It dropped my cpu temp by 9-10 degrees c. Other cpu coolers didn't do me that well as my cpu has been running over 60 c. At 51 c now I feel better. Thought I'd let y'all know.

That wil only cool it at idle, not at load. It basicly shuts down the CPU during idle sessions to lower temps. During load though it wont effect temps at all. |

Still I think this is pretty neat. Only thing I have enable is called a cool bit. No idle loop or anything enabled (yet). I like the little monitor in my system tray. So far the highest it got was 55c. I get the same readings from sandra and aida.

There really is no best "soft idle" app, as they all use the same cooling method. Only different amounts of resource overhead, i.e. memory requirements.
Vcool works quite well, especially with its great user interface for tweaking.

Nope, is a custom VIA/Athlon cooling utility.
For an SiS chipset, you do not need software cooling if you are running Win2K/XP, as these NT operating systems already include a processor suspend function. It just happens VIA boards need a little extra tweaking. |

Just fyi, Vcool gave me problems with WinTV. I guess it wouldn't recognize that the TV was running and it would freeze the picture after a couple minutes.
I've since decided it's best not to use those utilities anyways since they give a false sense of security. |
