| Athlon XP not running at full speed
I have an Athlon XP2000 (1.67MHz) CPU, and it's been running fine for ages... It's been getting a bit hot recently (up to 54 degrees C), but still running faultlessly.
I just went away for Easter, and when i booted up after getting home, it's only running at 1.3GHz: Quote: DxDiag said...

| i don't understand why it says this... cos it's a faster processor than this.
Could the heat thing set a new speed for the next reboot or something??

could be the cmos battery is dead, did you unplug before you went away?
The bios may have reset itself, did you check there? |

looks like (from what you have said) your cmos has reset the FSB settings from 133 which is should be, to the default 100mhz.
I got this from multiplying your multiplier of 12.5 by 133 to get your 1.67, and 12.5 x 100 to get 1.3(approximate)
Have you gone into your cmos setup to look in there?

That's almost certainly the problem. For some reason some boards like to reset themselves occasionally. Mine does it all the time.

happens all the time on ECS K7S5a. It wont hold settings and if you unplug it they go back to 100/100fsb setting instead. My bros. did it after I built it for him. By the time he got home his Tbred (133) turned into a tbird (100) hehe. Quick easy fix-go into bios and reset to 133/133.

Yeah. They were supposed to have fixed that, but doesn't look it. I get a nice warning as the BIOS logo appears by default and I always have it disabled, and if I mis that I notice it when my LAN doesn't work. |
