I'm running an 1800 with pc2700 ram, so since the fsb for the cpu is running at 266 (133x2) does that mean my ram is basically not running at full capacity since it is 333(166x2) mhz?

Yep thats what it means. Your ram is faster than your cpu-so its pluging away. Hey-your ready for barton upgrade though.

Well why would my mother board support 2700 Ram if it does not support 333 processors. I have an abit KX7-333R and it only officially supports the 200/266 amd's. I am willing to bet that it would support the 333 ones as long as they only had the 256k cache and not the 512 cache, I think the 2600+ is the only one that does that, and that there are 2 variation on the 2600+,
266 with 256k cache
and 333 with 256k cache, I think the 2800+ starts at 333 with 512k cache.
My mother board does have the correct multipliers for the agp and pci busses. I just assumed that the system was using the faster ram by using a multiplier so that it could run the memory at 333 fsb while running the proc at 266 fsb.
My MB spec page is here http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/...ies=1&model=32 |

You can blame VIA for that confusion... Their KT333 chipset does support PC2700, but does not "officially" support 333 processors... Many KT333 based boards can run a 333 processor with no problems, as long as they have the 1/5 divider to keep the PCI and AGP bus where in needs to be when uping the FSB to 166. Before I upgraded to my nForce2 board, I had an EPoX 8K3A+ which was based on the KT333 chipset, that board had the correct dividers to run at 333 as well and I was able to successfully overclock my 2100+ into a 2700+ by changing the bus speed to 166. |

When I first assembled my 2500+ rig, it booted at 1.13Ghz if I remember correctly, as my FSB was running at 100Mhz double pumped bus on an 11x multiplier. When I bumped the bus up to 166 double pumped, my clock speed went back to 1.83Ghz where it should be.
Moral of the story is: check the BIOS! |

I'm running a
Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2
2500+ Bart
Kingston HyperX PC3200 DDR (With Dual channel)
Stock HS/F
Xaser 3 Skull series Tower
I was having problems with my mobo at first, it was detecting the CPU as 1100 but the multi was off and the FSB was 100 . Worked on it abit and got it detected as 2600+ with FSB of 174Mhz But I want MORE! Got a Volcano 12 with AS5 otw then I'll see how far I can take it....Does anyone forsee any problems? |
