CPU temp 120 F
I was wondering if this is normal with a CPU that is on a NFORCE2 MSI mobo clocked at 1.9GHZ and 400MHZ FSB. My heatsink is a volcano 11+

My duron 1.3 ghz is running at that temp so its shouldn't be much of a problem. Are you having any stabability problems.
Got Jesus?

I got a thouroughbred B.
forgot to mention this. Was wondering what voltage it should be in too. I have my mobo decide for me but there was a previous thread here that had people lower the voltage a little and get the temps to go down without suffering stability.

nah that's not a problem...if you want to cool it some more i would recommend sanding and polishing the bottom of your hsf and using artic silver 3, that should drop your temps by 5 degrees or so. but really tho 120 isn't bad at all, it's still well within normal specs

my previous 1700+ is at 96 F with stock hsf.
I got a volcano 11+ on this new one. This hsf supports up to 3400+.

With an overclocked CPU, it's hard to say what a good temp should be. Undervolting an overclocked CPU will probably just give you errors all over the place. With air cooling, I imagine that's an OK temp. Like chris said, unless you are having stability problems, i.e. games locking up after you are running them for a little while, heat is probably not going to be a concern.
Which Athlon is it?"I was absolutely astounded that something like a Chee-to could become a pop icon," said Evans. "It's international. I've even seen it online on a Russian site."

Is it a 1700+? 2100+? What is the stock PR?

Well, 120 with that kind of overclock is pretty good, if you ask me. I would not touch the voltage. You may want to remove the HSF and reapply AS3, and check the airflow properties inside of your case. Too many fans can be just as bad as too few. If you are using the same case as the other 1700+, then you could have applied too thick/thin of a layer of AS3, or you may not have applied it properly. Assuming of course you used AS3. Check the Artic Silver website for instructions on applying the compound.
Otherwise, check your fan configuration. I have two exhaust fans, and I accidentally set one to pull in, and one to push out. My temps were all wacky, and since I've fixed that, my system is idling at 35 Celcius CPU and system temps."I was absolutely astounded that something like a Chee-to could become a pop icon," said Evans. I checked the CPU http://mp3.zonebg.com/cpu/cpu.php
there with the writings on my CPU core and it said what I said on my previous post.

for the fan I used the silicon grease that came with the volcano 11+ and the case I got is the thermaltake Xaser 3. The fan configuration is the stock 7 fans with 2 in the back exhoust. 2 side intake. 1 top exhoust. 2 front intake.

My baton 2500+ OCed to 2.1ghz runs about that temp with the stock HS/F.
So dont worry.

I want to oc it to about yours pyrosama. You think mine will reach it. What is your FSB and mutliplier setting.
Also want to know how much of a performance jump based on performance ratiing a 400mhz FSB is compared to a 333mhz FSB with the same overall clock speed.Last edited by pinoy87; May 2nd, 2003 at 12:14 AM.

If you want to try getting it to Pyro's speed, try knocking up the multiplier. You may or may not have to bump up the voltage though, and definately watch the temps.
And as for the PR rating question....
Does it really matter? All I can say is if you have to know where you stand, download SiSoft Sandra and compare the results to what they have for the different AMD processors."I was absolutely astounded that something like a Chee-to could become a pop icon," said Evans. I have the volcano 11+ on my 3000+ and fully loaded the temp reaches 120 F. This is not overclocked.. Its in a antec 1040 case w/ a 550 watt ps and all the fans..

Well I can olny get my system to run at 185mhz fsb X2 if I push it to 187 the system becomes unstable and at 190+ My registry gets corupted. I have it at 175mhz x2 fsb right now with a 12 multiplyer. When I get my SLK900 I hope to puch it to 2.5ghz.
But for your system being able to OC the same as mine I would have to know what exactly you run and it just all depends. I can notice a slight diferance when Im doing highly CPU intinsive work such as rendering and such. But really not to much other than that.

well I got mine up to 2.1GHZ @ 400MHZ FSB. The temp is still at 120 F. My comp wouldnt boot windows above 2.1GHZ. I use geil ddr400 ram. Cant wait to run 3dmark and see my score.
