    Question XP 1700+ Recall?

I was told by a computer tech at a local store here that AMD is recalling certain XP 1700+ CPU's. I can't find that info anywhere on the site.

Anyone know something I don't, or is the guy full of BS???

I haven't heard anything about it, but I no longer work at a computer store.

I'd assume that the Inquirer (www.theinquirer.net), the Register (www.theregister.co.uk), HardOCP, and a whole bunch of other computer hardware sites would run that on the front page if it was true.

Was he trying to get you to buy an 1800+ or faster?

Actually the guy is an Intel baby - not that there is anything wrong with Intel, if you can afford them. I talked to this guy on a more casual basis, away from his job, and he mentioned it. I starting to really believe he smoked his lunch...

Hmm... I haven't found anything like it in my search. That's unusual for someboby to recall cpus because of uh.. what? The air bags didn't deploy in a collision?

I have an xp1700 palo so he didn't mention palos? t-breds? You got me curious friend.

    It's probably not true.

In fact, the new Thoroughbred-B Athlon XP 1700+ is becoming a legend for it's overclocking abilities.

I have built a few systems with that processor just because it runs so cool (below 30c on some of them) and I expect years of operation from them.

Maybe they are recalling all the 1700+'s so they can remark them as higher rated CPU's in order to sell them for more....

They can recall them all they want. All of mine are running between 2200 and 2450 MHz, and they ain't getting them back!

You hit the nail on the head, but that's from unfair/not honest resellers. I just submitted news to this link about it. That's why you build the computer yourself

    UPDATE:

AMD contacted me regarding the recall; false, as we suspected. Bummer, too. I had a brand new motherboard go up in smoke (on the first boot) and it ate my new XP1700 !!! And of course, Chaintech NEVER replies to warranty issues. Will never buy one of those pieces of trash again
