| overclocking s606 multimedia packard bell
I like some info on my multimedia s606 packard bell in order to overclock cpu or at least speed it up. I don't know the motherboard. Plus I 'd never overclock a computer. I've install two 128 ram 100pc and only get 64 mb of ram. Any suggestions would help. Also install Windows XP Profession. |

OEM computers, 99 percent of the time, do not allow you to fiddle with settings like the front side bus or voltages.
Not sure on the RAM question. Did you install two 64 MB sticks for 128 total, and are showing only 64? Or have you installed two 126 MB sticks and are only showing 64 total MB? If you tried installing a total of 128 in two sticks, one stick may be bad. If you want to know more about your motherboard and such, I've used Belarc Advisor to check out what kind of components were in my old Dell. Get it here: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Try that and it should be able to tell you at least what kind of chipset or model number your mobo is, and a google search should yield more info.
As far as installing Windows XP...
You put the CD in the drive and install it, pretty much. Have you tried installing it yet and are getting errors?
EDIT: Forgot my manners. Welcome to TechIMO!

Thank you for the reply. Yes I've already install Windows operating with no trouble. and as for ram there 128 apiece and should be good for there new, but should it at least recognize 128 if one is bad? I will try the site you recommend. And again thanks beppodmime |

The board may not suport the ram you put in it.

How come? It has two slots and cording to "memory techs" it the maxium ram it can have is 128. And is there another way around this problem? And would overclocking help the speed as far as loading to whatever and be able to reconfirgure memory limits if this is the case? Thanks for the reply And what about switching to pc 133 mhz any chance that would help? And thanks again. |

Seems that your 128 sticks are too high density for the computer. Another possibility is that those slots are for edo mems.

For loading more memory than the computer can support, no amount of reconfiguring will get you to be able to run more memory than the chipset on the motherboard can support. If your motherboard can only support a maximum of 128 megs of physical memory, than you are stuck with running 2 64MB sticks. And in a system that old, even if you could overclock the thing, the differences in load times and such would probably be insignificant. |
