As some of you know i had to give my 1.2ghz machine to my mom becasue her 500mhz was getting to slow for her and she wanted a faster computer. I gave it to her, and then in return i got her 500mhz P3 machine. For what i will be useing it for, the speed is fine, but i think it has an overheating problem. When ever i have seti running for more than an hour, it will always freeze, it won't turn off or restart, it will just freeze. The mouse won't work, no response. Now I have never had an intel machine over heat before, i have only seen my AMD machine overheat, and it usually restarts when it gets to hot. Is this a common sign for intel based machines that it is overheating?
I will take the side panel off to see if that helps.
Thanks,
-Biz |

After it freezes like that open the case feel the HS if its warm to the touch then its overheating.
Is it a slot of socket CPU? Try a better fan.

I tried that but this is a crap motherboard and it didn't come with any sensors. Tommorrow I will run at for an hour and when it locks up i will open the case and then feel how warm the heatsink is. Then i will run it with the case cover off.
BTW, its a slot Pentium 3 500mhz. |

Have you opened it and made sure the fan runs? Is it full of dust elephants? Maybe you just need to clean that thing out. My ladys machine was acting strange when I first met her. I opened the case and it was so clogged with dust I can't believe it ran at all. After a good cleaning and such, it now runs flawlessly, I'd give it serious thought. |

Some times you can just clean out all the dust take the fan apart clean out more dust, oil, and put it backtogether working.
