I currently have PC2100 mem in my comp. Can I use 2400 or 2700? What items in my box decide this?

They ment to be for hardcore OCers i think .. so they have to work on PC2100 slots .. but will work at the CPU FSB only ...they will only go as high as the FSB of the CPU goes ... |

Can u elaborate at all? My cpu will OC a little, but not much. My board doesnt allow for any fsb settings between 138 (for 9x138=1.25ghz, which runs fine) and 150 (for 9x150=1.35, which crashes shortly after bootup).
I achieved these increases in speed by fsb overclock only, the multiplier is locked. Did the comp crash because cpu was unstable or because the memory wasnt operating fast enough to feed cpu? Is is possible that I might achieve higher stable cpu speeds w/ 2400 or 2700 memory?
Or is this not the case at all and my thinking is schewed (spelling?)
Anyone with more knowledge on the subject would be much appreciated.

Take whatever FSB you want to run and multiply it by 8. This will tell you which memory you will need.
Right now I'm running at 320MHz FSB so my memory is running the equivalent of 320x8=2560 or about PC2600.
Default 200MHz and 266MHz Birds need 200x8=PC1600 and 266x8=PC2100(2128 to be exact) respectively.
So my memory is basically capable of PC2700. Other things are holding me back now so I can't test it further. |

So, if my comp wont successfuly overclock to 1.35ghz, is there anyway of knowing whether the processor or the memory is to blame? |

Lower the multiplier and see if the FSB goes up more. If it doesn't then it's not the CPU. |
