| Athlon XP 2500 with PC2100 RAM
Hey, I've got a shuttle motherboard and just put in an Athlon XP 2500. I can only support PC2100 RAM so whats the best I can do with this processor and how should I do it? |

I've got Kingston DDR266 PC 2100 RAM and....I'm not sure what the board is exactly anymore. The bios says AK31, but I think thats just the bios |

I don't understand why a board would support an XP 2500 and only PC2100 ram ??? Doesn't seem right to me.

ya, I don't think it would support it either, I'm just trying to get the best speed out of it I can without damaging anything. |

If you have the Shuttle AK31 V1, 2, or 3 the highest CPU supported is a XP 2100 Palomimo core.
I went to double check your board as I didn't think this supported the Barton.
I would like to know at what speed it's running at (133 or 166) and what is the actual speed ghz wise.

I think that's the point. If you've only 266 fsb support, you can't run it full speed.
UNLESS (there's always an unless) you unlock it.
There are lots of unlocking tricks these days, the wire trick being the easiest. I'm pretty sure you're running an 11x multiplier (1.83 ghz stock? only 1463 mhz at 266 fsb). If you unlock the chip like that, it will give you up to a 12.5x multiplier (1663 mhz @ 266 fsb). |
