P3 dual processor match

My P3 933 workstation has an empty slot for a second processor, and for no good reason other than I'd like to check it out and they're cheap, I found a new second processor for $75.

However, the vendor is telling me that the processor stepping code must match my existing (SL4BT) for it to work right. And of course I haven't been able to find one with that code yet.

Intel sez that it can be installed with a different stepping code, but they haven't tested it...are they just being overcautious here?

Anyone know if this is a problem, is adding a second chip with a different stepping code something I should not try? Any ideas on a vendor that might have the SL4BT stepping code processor?

Thanks...

That's not cheap

There shouldn't be a problem...I run a dual pentium 200mhz system where both CPUs are different steppings

Send a message via ICQ to Ultima
I run 2 P3 1Ghz/133Mhz on an MSI 694D Pro.

Altho this board is said te be a bit more forgiving then most dual P3 boards, I run 2 completely different steppings and they work just fine.

Mine ain't even the same default Vcore, imagine that. 1 is 1.75V and the other 1.7V
I was told not all dual boards can handle that, but I dunno for sure.

A simple way to get the stepping number:

Right click on "My Computer"
Select Properties

On the window it should say the Model and stepping of the CPU in your system currently.
