I have noticed with Athlon systems, the RAM Performance is not as good as the P4's. But with CPU performance the Athlon seemed a little faster.
I have a P4 2A GHz Machine with 768 MB of DDR PC 2100 RAM with a Intel 845E Chipset. My friend has a Athlon XP 2200 with the new Nforce 2 Chipset with 512 MB of DDR PC 2700.
Yet the Performance on my P4 seems much better. |

It may be the nForce 2 chipset that's slowing him down. It's relatively new and they're still trying to work out the bugs from what I've heard.

nforce2 buggy? Maybe...but look at the alternative
KT400 = one big ass bug
If AMD would keep up on chipsets for their CPUs like Intel does then NOBODY would waste their money on Intel

Cyrix, only way to go!
Seriously I am an AMD fan, nothing wrong with Pentiums, I am just cheap.
I agree that the biggest problem with AMD is chipsets. Always 3rd party.

BTW, Darthgary:
You and your friend should benchmark those things and learn a little bit about tweaking before making such statements. |

[quote]When it comes to chipsets, we will build the first one. Then when someone comes along with a better solution, we will bow out. We are not in the market of building chipsets, and we would rather work with companies who are to ensure a better product.[quote]
I think Intel should pay SiS a little more attention to make their chipsets stronger (they're already stronger than the Intel sets anyway, IMO). They're just too proud |

IMO, intel makes some good chipsets. IMO, the nforce2 is NOT buggy. IMO, dagarthy shoud bench the 2 comps to prove his point.

yeah...definitely bench the two comps to really see which one is better. what your seeing is the multitasking capabilities of the intel chip (which has always been a little better than AMD), it has nothing to do with speed really. |
