help pushing up my FSB...

ok I have a Tbred B 2400+, Giga-byte 7VAX mobo, and one stick of PC2100 512 DDR. I know the RAM is not to great but I've heard of others pushing their FSB up to 166 and lowering the multiplier to 12/12.5. not OCing yet, just optimaizing performance. So anyway, the furthest I can push the FSB up to is 165...not cause its not satble beyond that or anything, but because my BIOS simply won't let me. It says enter a DEC number between 133 and 165. I cant get it any higher! Do I need to change my RAM bus??? I'm really at a loss here, I have no idea what to do. Also any suggestions regaurding voltages are mor ethan welcome. When doing this, what do I need to overvolt and by how much. I'm sort of thinking that since the multiplier is lower CPU is doing less work and thus dopesnt need any more volts while the RAM...does??? Please help me out!

~Paul

It's not the RAM, bud. It's your mobo.

well, i know my mobo isnt top-of-the-line or anything but it does support 333 fsb and 400 fsb (it has the kt400 chipset). So I don't understand why it wont let me raise the fsb...i mean it clear states that it supports 333 and 400 in the manual...

Look for an onboard jumper to kick it up then.

theres only two jumpers i can find...one that controls the multiplier, and one that swithches between what SUPPOSED to be 100fsb mode and 133/166fsb mode...needless to say, its on the later of the two, but still it wont hit 166. I'm pretty sure that these are all the jumpers it has on it... Also, any suggestions on the voltages? i just need to know which ones need to be increased...

I have a kt400 mobo and an xp 2400+; couldn't raise the fsb above 139 and someone suggested lowering the multi more (I think I cried and dropped to 10x) and raising the fsb to 166. I did and my overclock has been OK so far w/ 166 which kind of drops the pci speed back to 33 as I see it. Much more stable.

Course I'm a noob and know nothing but it worked for me.

hmmm, stock 2400 is 15x133 = 2000
You are at 10x166 = 1660

Is that an overclock?

unless you have one of the other revisions of this board according to gigabyte the 7VAX mobo does not support 400mhz fsb. and yes the ram can be limiting the oc'ablity of your board as well as the fact that when you oc it raises the bus speeds of everything else. Don't forget that just because others have done something does not mean that you'll be able to get yours to do the same.

as for dropping the mulitplier to 10x and fsb to 166 thats an underclock
