| Max stable temps for a VIA?
Could anyone tell me the maximum temperature for a VIA C3 CPU while still maintaining stability? I hear they fry at around 110C but haven't been able to find at what temp they start crashing.
Thanks.

I'm not sure, but I think VIAHardware.com did a review of a VIA CPU/mobo setup a while back. CHeck around for that. Whatever the case, I guss you can run them without a fan, maybe even without a heatsink. Not too sure on the latter though.
Edit:
Actually I just saw a picture of one, and it said heatsink/fan required. Who knows.

Don't see a answer yet, but some interesting Quotes.
BTW, I don't understand why more people don't jump on the VIA C3 Processor, looks great on paper and is very inexpensive too.

You didn't mention the CPU speed you're using, the chart shows the temp directly under the Heatsink to range from 70-85C

I'm using a 800MHz 133fsb C3 (sorry should have mentioned that). Thanks for the link, it seems to indicate a 70C max. My chip is currently running 60C full load with a Alpha 6045 with no fan. But my shuttle SV24 case has virtually no airflow through it... I'll have to improve upon that. Thanks for the help.
(Boy does this C3 stink at ECCp-109 compared to my P-III )

Richard--The reason why most peopel dont jump on them is because they are a niche product. For cool running and lower power consumption only. No gamer's cpu at all, and a Celeron 566 can best a C3 866 (according to one review anyways).
I would love one for a server. And Tachyon seems to have a unique product because of his reduced noise level with no fan. These would be great to use as a 24/7 server in which you dont have to worry about a hot room affecting performance. |

You would also think that more of the big OEMs would start using them for their office PCs. Being fanless, they would be perfect for quiet offices, libraries, etc. I guess Intel's got too many office managers brainwashed into thinking that Intel processors are the only option. |
