Question
Looking for 1700XP setting recommendations

I am about to build my new system and I'm looking for the optimal settings for my new 1700XP processor. I am putting it on an ASUS A7V266-E Mb that has the KT266A chipset.

This MB has lots of overclocking options but I don't want to crank it too high and do any damage.

It also has an option to set it in "JumperFree Mode" that would let me adjust all the jumper settings from the Bios. Does anyone see a downside to this cool feature?

Any advice would be appriciated.

Arnie

almost all motherboards are jumper-free now - no downsides (other than if you OC it too far and it won't boot you might have to clear the CMOS and set everything in the BIOS again). I assume that 1700XP is a Palomino core - you can tell as the die on the chip is square rather than rectangular. If so I believe they're all multiplier-locked and you can only unlock them using both the wire mod and the bridge mod... so you'll only be able to OC by increasing the FSB... I might be wrong tho. If so you might still be able to get an FSB of 145-150 with decent RAM.

Look at the date stamp on the poster's thread. It's pretty old.
