| installing P-III
Hows it going all.
Im planning on chucking this new cpu i scored, into my pc..
Its a pentium 3 600, i believe it is the coppermine, as WCPUID reports it as having 256k L2 cache, and i think its run 100fsb, ie. PIII-600E.
Anyway, im trying to install it into my ABIT BH-6, which currently houses a P-II 450..
Do i need to change voltages and stuff in the bios before i install or will like it auto-detect or something??
Cuz my p2 has around 2.05v running into it, but coppermines run at 1.65v.. im thinking the extra voltage might fry the thing
Anyone know? |

Looks like it should.
It probably auto determines the fsb and voltage.
Thanks to prexaspes I have a little info on all that junk.
It looks to be the same chipset I'm running.
The 450 is probably running at 100 fsb also.
this may be of a little help: http://www6.tomshardware.com/motherb.../440bx-03.html
It just says at what the fsb can be run. |

uh, what the..
I pull out my P-II, and its a mammoth black case covered thing which was stuck in a large slot, which of course, is slot 1..
But the p3 is socket370!?
can i just take off the cover of the p2 and replace the chip, or what?? Because i know people have used p3's on an Abit BH-6 board..
*confused* |

Your chipset supports P3 so what you need is a Slot 1 > Socket 370 converter.
I haven't seen many of these converters in the local computer shops because it's old hat, with the Pentium 4 taking over.
Look on eBay, I saw a few the last time I was on...
Edit: too late

cheers dudes, i live in New Zealand, so i'll have to see if theres any lying around here.
other than that, i have some crappy Socket370 mobo made by MSI.. but its micro-atx, and has a pitiful 3 PCI slots, and only 2x memory slots..
which do you think would be better to go with?
Abit BH-6 with 320MB SD-RAM using socket370 converter.. with tnt2 ultra running @ 2x AGP, and hdd at ATA-33
or MSI with 256MB SD-RAM, tnt2 ultra @ 4x AGP, and hdd at ATA-66
The bottom kinda sounds better.. but its got **** all slots, and i cant be bothered fully installing that mobo Do not use profanity here!!
How many times do i have to edit you till you quit using profane?!
