| Recommendations please..(heating problems)
I recently installed an AMD XP2100 THOROUGHBRED and have overclocked it slightly, running at 2040mhz, when I run pc at full usage the processor gets up to 67-68degrees C. I am using standard fan and heatsink supplied and would like recommendations for better fan and heatsink please, THANKS.... |

If you stick to air-cooling, Thermalright makes some of the most effective heat sinks, and you only need to mate them with a good fan. The SLK-900 and SLK-800 have been tested at at 0.22°C/W and 0.23°C/W cooling efficiency (see http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/).
I use the Thermalright AX-7 (came out before the SLK800 and SLK900 were available).
For fans, all three of the above HS take 80mm fans (I think the SLK900 will accomodate a 92mm fan, too). Papst and Panaflow are generally considered the top of the line fan brands. I use Sunon, and have been happy.
I try to find a fan that delivers the most airflow while keeping noise below about 40dBA (my noise limit). Sunon has an 80mm fan that delivers 50.6CFM at right around 40dBA noise. www.1coolpc.com carries this fan as well as others.

Thanks for answering, I,ve had it running happily at 2250mhz but got FAR too hot so turned it down a bit. I'll check out your suggestions and get whichever is best (cheapest), thanks again.. |

There's also Thermaltake, who make the Volcano series of fans...
eg. I recently upgraded from my stock fan on my XP 2800+ to a Volcano 11 Heatsink Fan (HSF) and My CPU runs on average 10~20 degrees cooler (C)! well worth the upgrade!
Never heard of ThermalRight? lol, ooh well

Different board designs place the capacitors and RAM slots in slightly different locations, some times too close to the CPU socket for certain HS designs.
I think Thermalright has a compatability list for their HS's somewhere on their website; motherboard manufacturers may do the same for their boards. Not sure if Thermaltake has a list. |
