What do you think? C3? Intel? AMD? C3 has the power, Intel have the clock speed and AMD have the serial numbers. Which is your favourite.
Fastest processors
Intel Pentium 4 3.2 ghz 800mhz fsb 512kb cache hyper threading $549
AMD Athlon XP+ 3ghz 333 fsb 2mb cache $509
C3 1ghz effective clock 2.33 Ghz 512 kb cache $49 (yeah u heard me right)
Which ones best do you reckon? |

Re " ...C3 has the power...." Got any links to comparative benchmarking comparing all three processors? Also, your prices seem out of line for both the AMD and Intel offerings. Are these US dollars? Can you verify exactly which model/part number of AMD and Intel CPU you're talking about?
If you can provide this info, it would be easier to give an informed answer to your original question.

Swords, definately swords.
And the Athlon XP 3000+ only has 512K L2 Cache.
The C3 is a low voltage CPU, intended for use in applications where cooling capacity isn't always going to be great (like in a car/very confined space). They are commonly used for set-top computers, as well. The fastest they are currently available at Newegg is 1 GHz, and there's no way in heck it could keep up with ANY 2 GHz CPU from AMD or Intel, let alone a 1 GHz one. It's not really meant to.
And uh, the Athlon XP can be had for less than 300 bucks just about everywhere online. Where did you get your prices from?

Via chips are pure crap. They can't compete w/ anything these days.
AMD struggles but keeps up w/ the behemoth intel. Via is lagging so far behind, it's sick. |

I have a few of the C3 CPU's at work and in no way would I compare their effective MHz at 2.3GHz. They lack many features and are not suitable for power users/gamers at all(yes you heard me right). My money would be with AMD as I still view them as the best bang for the buck. If it wasnt for AMD, you would be paying twice as much for your Intel CPU.... |

In all fairness, Via CPU's are targetted at an entirely different market than regular desktop CPU's. Although their 1GHz CPU's are the first ones that are able to play a DVD skip free, they do so using very little power and they can still be passively cooled at 1 GHz. If I was looking to build a virtually silent computer for my home theatre, I'd consider a Via setup. But for any gaming at all, you're going to want an AMD or Intel.
True dat on paying twice as much for Intel CPU's, skit. |
