P4 2A & 2.46

I can OC my P4 2A to 2.46 Ghz and if I go any higher then it reboots, If I got a better heatsink or some good Water cooling would this CPU go much higher, I know the point of killer HSF's and water cooling is to OC but I have a feeling this CPU wont go above 2.48 for no one.

Pentium 4 2A Ghz 1.55 Volt - stock HSF

MSI 845E Max MOBO 400-533 Mhz BUS only, HT not supported, 2X PC 2100 DIMM slots, 6X PCI slots, 1X CNR slot, AGP 4X 1.5 V only.

512 MB Module of PC 2100 I think K-Byte with Elixir Chips
256 MB Module of PC 2700, Its either Samsung Or Kingston?

80 GB WD 7200 RPM 2 MB cache, ATA 100
20 GB Maxtor 5400 RPM ATA 100
40X CDROM Drive
32X12X48 CDRW Drive - IN MY PC BROKEN!!!

AGP4X = ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128
PCI 1 = Nothing
PCI 2 = Sound Blaster Live Platinum 5.1
PCI 3 = ATI TV Wonder VE
PCI 4 = USB Bracket
PCI 5 = USB D Bracket 2.
PCI 6 = Netgear 10/100 Low profile NIC

Well, what kind of RAM do you have, and what mobo are you running right now? And that's a 2.0 GHz chip stock, right? And yes, regardless of cooling there is a chance that the CPU won't do a MHz over 2.48. I have a Barton 2800+ at 2.4 GHz and 1.85V, and even if I crank the voltage up past 2.0V, and even though the temps are still below 50C idle, it will not do a MHz more than 2.45 GHz.

But post your specs, maybe we can give you more input.

What hs/fan are you using now? What voltage are you running at? I think 2.6Ghz is a decent oc for that CPU, though.

Its the mobo that I am wondering about? I know the CPU will go higher.

Looking at the specs, you're running it currently at 123MHz FSB, right? If the memory is running at 123MHz too, then there should be no problems with that, and the mobo should be able to do 133MHz too, no problems. Right now there's a couple of limiting factors. You could need to juice up the CPU voltage a bit. But that will also increase the heat load from the CPU, and you have mentioned before that the CPU is already running hot.

My advice would be some better cooling, in the form of a Thermalright SLK 800 or 900 with a good quality fan on top, like the ThermalTake Smartfan2, although I'm sure others would have other fan recommendations. This way, you can lower your temperatures and increase the voltage. You're running a pretty low voltage, and maybe 1.6V will help you get to 2.5GHz. But then again, maybe it won't. At least you'll have a CPU running cooler, and if you buy the right fan, quieter. Another HSF you may want to try is the Vantec Aeroflow. Good cooling, low noise. Always remember that when increasing VCore, do it in the smallest possible increment at a time, and test for stability using a stress program like Prime95. If there are any errors or re-boots, increase by another increment and try again. But if you're running 50C idle already, you're definately going to want to improve your cooling.

Out of curiousity, what kind of system temps are you getting, and what is the fan setup for the case you're running?

The FSB is 120X20. Water Cooling or air cooling would still help my 53C idle and 60C load.
