| SSE Headaches
I just read through this thread, picked it up from doing a search in google on SSE installation fault ... seems I am having the same problem installing Adobe Premiere. Hmmm
Well I went to Adobes site and found this error messege comment on SSE installation problems.. this is what they had to say about it...
What Adobe Says About SSE Errors:
--------------------------------
Error "...processor does not support the SSE instruction set" occurs during startup (Adobe Premiere Pro 1.0)
Issue
When you try to start Adobe Premiere Pro, it returns the error "Adobe Premiere Pro cannot run on this computer because the processor does not support the SSE instruction set."
Solution: Check system requirements.
Make sure that you install Adobe Premiere Pro on computer that meets the minimum system requirements (that is, an Intel Pentium III 800 MHz or later processor). For a list of system requirements, visit the Adobe Web site at www.adobe.com/products/premiere/systemreqs.html.
Background information
Adobe Premiere Pro requires the SSE (Streaming SIMD Extensions) instruction set for realtime previews. The SSE instruction set is included with Intel Pentium III and later processors.
------------------
Now that is interesting.. Adobe says above pentium 3 - 800 mhz cpus should handle this instruction set, but now I am reading here from several postings, that even those with above 1 gig cpus on Athelon XP cpus are having the same problem.
I dunno, if you ask me something is fishy here.. it does not add up.. is this not an adobe problem more so than a cpu problem.. I cannot see why a 1.7 gig amd cpu cannot handle this instruction set.. I think one should investigate adobes end on this.. but who has the time to track this down..
oh well.. so far bllleccchhhh!!! on adobe premiere 7.... |

I logged a call with AMD. I have a Compaq Presario with the Athalon chip and according to them I am completely out of luck. I don't believe my motherboard will accept the XP processor which was the AMD proposed solution. |

Ok, hopefully this will clear a few things up...
Ignore clock speeds for this.
P3 & above do have SSE instructions
Athlon (thunderbird & below cores) do not have SSE instructions
AthlonXP (palimino & above cores) do have SSE instructions
Duron (spitfire & below cores) do not have SSE instructions
Duron (morgan & above cores) do have SSE instructions
In all cases, for SSE instructions to be recognised a clean install of windows MUST be done AFTER the installation of a processor that supports SSE. A reinstall over the top of an exisiting non-sse install will not guarantee SSE support.

Hello! came across here when I was googling for "k7s5a sse"
As was mentioned, Athlon XP's do implement SSE, but that support also depends on the motherboard/bios.
Unfortunately, SSE is *disabled* by default on the K7S5A's ..
(problem's ECS encountered maybe ??)
BUT the good news is that the third party "Cheepoman" bios enables it and is available here: http://www.ocworkbench.com/2002/ecs/...cheepobios.htm
I'm about to try this myself now ..
EDIT: another bios that's recommended over the Cheepoman bios is the very good
HoneyX bios: http://www.geocities.com/honeymoon36/bios.html
(get "OC 021209")
more info (and flash tool links): http://pub140.ezboard.com/bk7s5amotherboardforum
(this is what i use right now and didn't realize the current version already enables SSE)

hello there! i was wondering on whether the upgraded bios from "cheepoman" worked in making premiere pro run on an athlon xp 1.7. i myself have an ecsk7s5a and would like to run premiere pro on my pc. also, which file to i download from cheepoman? there is the ecs k7s5a pro and another k7s5a file. i'm afraid of making a wrong download since i might render my board "dead". thanks. |

Speedfan is a handy bit of software, but you're better off using the BIOS for overclocking and that way you also get the extra options and bugfixes.

yeah, the K7S5A's very rarely work at that speed. I've yet to see one which would.
Try clocking it a little lower too lol, you'd most likely need a small voltage hike to do it, and also is your RAM up to it?
Finally, you get better results if you clock in the BIOS rather than windows. When you change the clock like that it throws everything out of sync. Use one of the BIOSes posted if you want to overclock on that board. |
