Who do I trust??

Hey folks, quick question...

I have an Asus A7N8x Deluxe with an XP 2500+ (doesn't everybody?)

Anyway, the temp on Asus PC Probe reads about 7-9 degrees hotter than the bios. Which one of those is the most reliable source?

Also, how good is the stock amd HS? would upgrading to a better HS give me some serious droppage in temp?

The pc is on a desk, and the surrounding temp is nice an cool with a ceiling fan running 24/7 and deskfan blowing right into the intake fan (1 intake/1 exaust). Temp runs about 50c Idle oc'd 11xmulti fsb 200 and default volt (1.65)

Thanks in advance

try another program, I would trust your BIOS though.

Don't trust the BIOS ... it's so far off on these nforce2 boards it's ridiculous. I don't even trust Asus Probe with my A7N8X Deluxe ... I use MBM5

Also make sure you have the latest BIOS ... Asus has been playing around with temperature compensation.

Jeez, I'd hardly worry much. OC'd and running 50C isn't the end of the world...what does it run at normal Clock speed?

I agree though, find a couple of different programs and see who comes out consistant with who.

Grab MBM5 and use this to help you set it up ... there's a few links in there with the data files for the < rev 2.0 and > rev 2.0 so you don't have to set anything up if you don't want to...notice there is a difference in sensors between revision 1.0x and 2.0

Honestly, temps only run about 4-5 degrees cooler on normal clock speeds. I'm not EVER running too hot or really super cool ..../shrug....checking out mbm as we speak, thanks a mill

The next logical questions would be, what's your Heatsink/Fan and hows the airflow in your case?

If you haven't already, check out my ultimate airflow thread and add to the discussion if you find you need better a better cooling solution.

stock amd hs ~ 1 intake (hold laughter) fitted in 2 of the drive bays, 1 exaust ( need to cut out the grill). they run directly across the CPU, but I realize this method is getting me very shallow results. I need a new case, big time....
