Data error: cyclic redundancy ON INSTALL

I've just recently built my first computer and today went to install Windows XP Pro on it. It was working fine while it reformated my harddrive, copied files and then rebooted. However after the rebbot it loaded XP and the XP load screen came up. Then it went to a slightly more dec ent looking screen that said on the left side that setup would take 39 minutes. There was a bunch of text on the right side bragging up XP. About a minute after this screen came up, a new screen popped up saying "Fatal Error" it then went on to say how there was a "Data error: cyclic redundancy". I have retried several times and get the same problem each time. I have tried the reccomendations at http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;811150 but to no avail.

The only thing left now is to replace the HD. The harddrive is a barnd new Maxtor 120 GB. Only problem is that I'll have to ship it into them and wait a few years for a new one, since I can't return it as I have removed the UPC for the rebate

So I would just like to know if anyone has any reccomendations before I go throught the bother of a warranty replacement. I have tried the first two steps at the Microsoft URL I gave earlier.

Thank you

You could download the Maxtor hard drive diagnostics (or use the disk that came with the drive) and make sure that they don't see any errors.

Do you have another CD-ROM drive you could try installing using? I know Diablo II gives me CRC errors with one of my CD drives. It could be that it miscopied a file from the CD and only tried to access it when it gave you that errror.

Thank you for your suggestions. Secondly I would like to apologize for posting in the wrong forum. I was apparently into much of a hurry when I was posting!
