Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu+ any users ?

I was in dire need of a Socket A cooler and the local pewter shop I lurk in from time to time had one for $20

newegg.com has em for $19 shipped so the price was OK

He said the 7000rpm fan was "a bit noisy" which is fine with me, but what kind of job does it do for a "Non-OverClocker", with the Copper Base I'd expect it to do better than the stock Cooler Master.

I don't use it but heres a really good comparision that includes that cooler...if you click on that one it will descibe installation problems, noise level, etc.

The lower the C/W index the more efficient the cooler is at dissapating (s/p) heat

I use one on my Tbird 950@1100. Full load temp is 54-55 celsius. Idle is in the mid to high 30's (don't remember exactly, was more interested in high temp) It's fairly easy to install too.

I don't have any additional case cooling so it's all on the Volcano-6.

Anyway, it's not exactly "hairdryer/dustbuster" loud but it is definately noticeable. With the side of my case off (who am I kidding, it's always off) it sounds about as loud aquarium air pump. Also it's not a high pitched noise, more of a hum.

I'm not a user of this product (yet) but several users have recommened this to me for my new Athlon system that should be arriving at the end of the week. I bet other users will post but I'll let you know how it turns out for me. From what I hear, this is supposed to be a very, very good heatsink.

I'm not happy with mine doc. See my post about adding a rheostat to try and quiet it. Too loud for me. I just got a XP1600 and it runs around 50 at full load. I need to lap it sometime I think, the copper base isn't very smooth. I installed it with Artic Silver.
If your not running anything that fast I would recommend the Taisol. I had that in my t-bird 850@1000 and it was nice and quiet.

I've been using this H/S Fan combo on a ga7-dx (rev 4.3) AMD 1800+ since I won it at St louis a few week's ago. The cpu runs at49C to 59C all the time(noload-fullload). The mobo does appear to throttle the fan from just under 7000rpm up to almost 7500rpm. This bugger is quite loud (even for us old retired folks that are hard a hearing)

I built an XP1600+ system for a friend before the holidays, and used a Volcano 6cu+ to cool it, and man does it run cool!!!

i have the Taisol cu and Vol. 6cu+. they both do a descent job with the delta screamer (7000rpm) on an overclocked invironment. the taisol beating out the vol.cu by 3c.

if your getting the volcano 6cu and your not overclocking, don't get the cu+, get the one without the (+). i find the 6800rpm fan too noisy after a month of using it.
