| Looking for a quiet heatsink/fan.Suggestions?
Dont overclock......much .
For systems I throw together at work I need a good heatsink/fan that isn't so freakin loud. The combo that comes with retail athlonxp's isn't too bad but seems to get louder after a couple months, (in a quiet office environment).
Got any suggestions? Would like to hear a pin drop.lol |

Well, If you want quiet and have no aversion to paying a little more-I would suggest a Mini-itx Via mobo. 170x170mm and they are fanless...kinda pricy-but the are basically an all in one board video, processor audio,usb,lan....the are obviously small, and may help not only where noise is concerned-but also space (a smaller footprint on the desktop) I havn't heard many unfavorable reviews of their performance and durability....I'll post a link if you'd like or just google search via+mini itx....
As far as heat sinks go I'd use an amd approved only ...I can't say what's better where fans go...Ball bearing? The noise has never bothered me much....

The other factor you may want to consider is Hdd's-Some are louder than others..I like Seagates they have the rubber shell on them which seems to damper the interior HD's noise...Case harmonics play a factor in noise as well...David |

If you "want to hear a pin drop", Zalman makes a complete line of silent HSF.

these are about the quietest hsf combo out there for amd other than getting a heatsink and a special fan Glacialtech Igloo Silent Breeze 462 19DBA . and they aren't expencive they are like 16$ at newegg .you will never hear them over the power supply . the link is for the silent breeze II which has a fan that runs at 200 rpm faster than the first version . the first version runs at 19dba at 2k rpm i wouldn't think the 200rpm difference would make it much more than 1 or 2 dba louder .
the vantec areoflow is also very quiet . i have a couple running on my systems . but they cost almost 2 times as much as the silent breeze |

Thanks omar and tony. Good suggestions.
Sorry dave but my post makes no mention of looking for a mobo or hard drive. |
