| Please explain?
I haven't been keeping up to date with the new Pentium 4's since I have been with AMD, but when my Fiance got her new Dell, I decided to start checking out prices for Pentiums. What I came across and I don't fully understand is when I went to price a 1.7 or 1.8 they all have this message: Quote: |
Pentium 4 Socket 478 Retail Box W/ No Memory!
| What? WITH NO MEMORY ? Current setup is :
I845 MB w/ Pentium 4 1.4 GHz
What's this memory and will I have to change it too if I upgrade in the future to another CPU?
Thanks,

Some retail box P4 chips come with 128mb of R-DRAM, for additional cost of course. This is essentially a program to extend the market visbility of RAMBUS memory for the i850 chipset. Since you are using an i845 board, you have no need for the memory. |

The board says it is able to run up to 2.0GHz CPU. So, I can just pick up a chip (when and if I intend to upgrade) without the memory stick and have no worries..?

Hey... not nice...
She wanted it. She was tired of my "Screamer" I had. Made to much noise and I worked on it too much. Plus, the PC is in the living room, which made it worse. So, now I get to tinker with her PC.

Wonder how an Athlon 2000+ compares to a Northwood with PC-800 in SSE optimized multimedia testing? |

Sweeper - on yours where was most of the noise? the psu fan or others?
Have a machine beside the bed - same thing - noisy as all get out.
I have it cracking - so it runs 24/7.
thanks wiz | |

I had 3 case fans which ran at 2500-3000 rpm's. On my T-Bird I had a Vantec CCK6035D which ran at 7000 rpm's. Last but not least my Visiontek GF3 has a Blorb on it also. Forgot: PSU fan.
So it was a bit noisy.
