1) Overclocking is just making your CPU run at a higher speed than it's actually rated at, therefore getting more "bang for your buck", therefore gaining the envy of all your friends.
2) I know nothing of your mobo, but overclocking is accomplished two ways: The first is to adjust jumpers on your mobo to increase the CPU's multiplier/FSB settings to get a higher clock speed*. The second way is to adjust these settings in your BIOS to accomplish the same results. Of course, your BIOS has to have these features, and I don't know if yours does.
Hopefully someone else can come along with more specifics for ya!
* Your CPU's speed is determined by it's clock multiplierX FSB. So a CPU with a multiplier of 6 times an FSB of 100mhz would yield a 600mhz CPU. Also, you might have to adjust the voltage going into your chip in order to support the higher speeds, and that'll make it run hotter, therefore requiring better cooling.....
Best of luck!
Oh yeah, forgot to mention that you can get an idea of what your chip is capable of by checking the database here: http://overclockers.cssftware.com/cpudb/index.cfm

One thing to remember: regardless of the motherboard, that P3 1 Ghz is multiplier locked, so any overclocking you do will have to be via the FSB route.

Hopefully in your bios you can increase the fsb in small increments, I had a P3 600 a couple years ago that by adding PC150 ram a good hs/fan combo and changing the fsb to 150 allowed me to run it at 900, a friend has and its still running like a champ!
Some chip/mb combos are better then others, ive had:
366 Celeron@645
600 slot P3@900
Slot 750 Tbird@1050
Duron800@1050
750Athlon@1065
1100Athlon@1300
1.33Athlon@1500
1.4Athlon@1645 |
