My new AMD XP 1600+ is green?!!
Just got back from my local puter shop and on a whim picked up a new XP 1600+ for my daughter ($134 out the door) and it's green just like a duron...when did this happen? I previously bought 2 XP 1600+ and they were brown....
chip marking are as follows:
AX1600DMT3C
AGKGA 0149MPMW
K0106920563

AMD didn't think consumers liked the brown color of the XP chips so they've started switching to a green substrate material. This article explains it a bit more thoroughly (it has pics of the green chips too).

This one's a collectors item. It got manufactured during the change over from brown to green.

actually, i bet the dual color chips would be popular for us kind of people who would have it just for the sake of being able to say we have it...
person 1: "so you have a $500 geforce3 ti500... i have a dual color xp sitting in MY system."
person 2: "darn, you are my superior!"
and you know we would do that...

That's pretty funny! It's not like you can really see the processor ater you pop the heatsink on!
Anyhow, that's quite considerate of AMD to tryin please their customers!

that'd be an interesting idea... they could even color-code the chips so that you knew the speed just by looking at the substrate....

Would you pay a few extra $$$ for a "designer" color chip?

i think custom color chips can be the new thing, like when the imac had all those friuty colors to choose from... you know, you can have your chip match the color of your case...
heck, why not have the hsf color coordinated too?
