| compaq pesario 5451?
I have an old pesario 5451 I want to change the processor on to a quicker one. Right now it has an AMD k6 500mhz processor and I want to replace it with another quicker one but, I am not sure how far I max it out without going into overclocking. anyone know the specs on the motherboard?...i hate compaq |

Try downloading Belarc Advisor. It should give you the chipset information necessary in order for us to provide you with an accurate answer. It can be downloaded here: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
It will also come up with oodles of other information, but the Chipset info is most important. Browsing through the docs on HP's website, I was unable to figure this out myself, or I'd probably already have an answer.
Chances are, though, that even the fastest chip this motherboard will be able to handle won't give you what you want from this system. Don't expect an old Socket-7 system to be able to do much, and the money spent on the new chip (whatever chip that may be) may do better to be saved for a new system entirely.

The fastest socket 7 cpu is the k62+ 500 or something alike, there are also 550Mhz versions, but that is max.
If yer wanting to overclock, max you'll probably get is 600 or near that.
best to get a new mobo and cpu alltogether.

i agree with the new mobo/cpu setup...or you could not spend anything (maybe) if you can over clock the 500 to 550, but not much gain there...but some mobo's wont let you OC, thats where gettign a new mobo/cpu is ur best bet
wooohooooo 500 posts
