| XP 2600 Running @ 1.24Gh???
Hi,
Can anyone help? I'm running an XP 2600 on a Gigabyte GA7N400 Pro board with a Gigabyte Ati 9200 128mb graphics card with 1gb of ram. The problem is that the system shows that the cpu is running at 1.24Gh instead of the 2.08 that it is supposed to. The settings in the bios are all set correctly.
Dodgy cpu maybe? It was running at the right speed when I got the pc. |

For whatever reason, the BIOS has the FSB of the processor set to 100 instead of 166 (12.5x100=1.24GHz). You need to set the FSB in the BIOS back to 166MHz. You may have inadvertantly reset the CMOS, or there may be a FSB jumper somewhere on the mobo that is placed incorrectly for your processor. Try going into the BIOS, under advanced chipset or some similiar menu, and set the CPU host clock, or front side bus, to the appropriate value.
Just curious, have you done any recent overclocking, or a BIOS flash, that may have corrupted the primary BIOS? Do you get any other error messages when the system first POST's?

Obviously it's running at 12,5x100MHz instead of 12,5x166MHz
Which means, that either your board doesn't support 166MHz fsb or your bios settings are incorrect.

Gigabyte GA7N400 Pro board supports:
Front Side Bus
333/266/200 MHz FSB
Are you running DDR333 on the board? Also, check to see if there is a jumber to set for 100/133/166. Set the jumber to 166 then go into the BIOS to make sure it is set for 166 also. Everyone above is correct on there assumptions. You must have it set wrong.

The last time I checked the fsb was set at 166MHz, but I will double check. As far as I can remember, the board just has a switch, on or off. The off position is set at 100MHz, & on is set for auto, which is for the faster fsb upto 333MHz.
I am using Twinmoss pc2700 ram, (1 gig of). |

I haven't even looked at it yet. I will get a chance hopefully this week.
I will post the outcome just in case it may help anyone else.

I have sorted out the problem.
The settings had been altered. The fsb was set at 166MHz, but the memory speed was set to auto. I changed it to SPD and this solved the problem. The cpu speed now reads 2.08MHz for the XP2600.
Thanks for all your pointers folks
