HSF suggestions for 2500+ Barton?

Hey all, looking at upgrading this 1700 (oc/d to 2400) and grabbing a 2500 barton sometime in the next week or two.

I need a good fan (halfway quiet, but good for the o/c) for it. If it looks cool, that's even better I'll be running it on a a7n8x dlx.

also, I only have 2700 ram, I suppose I'll need to get that up to 3200 before I can do any real o/cing, huh?

Thanks!

If you want to preserve your hearing in your old age, get a 92mm fan with good airflow to mate with that SLK900 (either "A" with 3-lugs clip, or "U" with 4 bolts). I got a relatively quiet Enermax UC-9FAB-B that puts out 64CFM at 34.3DBA.

Try the Vantec AeroFlow. It uses a TMD fan and is pretty quiet. Cools quite well and put one of my XP2500+ up to an XP3200+ without a problem. IMHO it looks pretty cool as well. Sells for around $30.00. You will need some PC3200 or above RAM most likely. I just bought two 512MB PC3200 Mushkin Basic Green CAS 2.5-4-4 from Newegg for $173.10 last week and it works quite well. Newegg also has the Kingston HyperX 512MBDDR 434Mhz PC3500 for $120.00(PC3200 is the same price) which will give you some nice OCing headroom. It has a CAS latency of 2(2-3-3-7-1T) for pretty fast timings.

i've got the slk947 and a 90mm enermax fan. the 947's supposed to be more compatible with boards like the A7N8X which has components very near the socket.

I've got a buddy with a 3200+ and the Thermaltake SilentBoost. He's VERY pleased with it, performance and noise wise. It's about 7db quieter than his old Coolermaster heat pipe cooler, and keeps the chip about four degrees cooler. It's also cheaper than a lot of 'high end' heat sink and fan sets on the market.
