| Cpu temps?
Through a generous person, I inherited a 2600+ with some bent pins. He also sent a Coolermaster HSF: www.uzaclan.com/Incog/coolermaster1.jpg
The fan was noisy and had a pretty bad vibration, so I swapped it out with a 60mm to 80mm adapter and a coolermaster 80mm LED fan. I used Artic Silver 5 thermal compound. www.uzaclan.com/Incog/adapter.jpg www.uzaclan.com/Incog/fan.jpg
This combination is very quiet even at full speed. I am wondering about the temperature though. At 100% cpu load for several days (folding at home), my temps never get above 39C and are usually at 35C. I have several case fans including a 120mm, which I have shut off because the temp is so low. Asus is reporting that my MB temp is 25C/77F and the ambient temp in the room is about 20C/68F.
When I turn my cpu fan to the lowest setting (completely silent), the cpu temp spikes to a balmy 46C. I've seen reviews of other quality HSF's that are that hot under load with a fan pushing 5000rpm's and 30-40db's. Without the noise from my two WD hard drives, I wouldn't know the computer was even on.
Could my A7N8X deluxe rev2+ be mis-reporting the temps?
Here's a pic of my system when I was running the case fans: www.uzaclan.com/Incog/computer.jpg
Thanks,
Incog |

i dont think so..since you are not overclocking that sounds about acurate...the higer temps you saw were probally from OCs

Don't these Athlon XP's have some "burn-prevent" mechanism that lowers the CPU cycles (speed) when it gets too high and thus keeps the temp low? Actually I've never been able to get my CPU below 49*C idle even with many fans in the case and AS3 on the HS, but that's cause my Athlon is from the Thunderbird series (known to run very hot). |

incog...
Unless you're getting heat-related freeze-ups or BSoDs, you really aren't having a temperature problem. I use pretty darn good heat sinks (ThermalRight SLK900As, AX-7s), with high volume 80mm and 92mm fans, and overclock and overvolt a "bit"... I run SETI@Home commandline client 100% of the time.
Even with excellent case ventillation, my CPUs tend to run in the mid-40s°C... and when the room is warm, even 47-48°C. Unless I get lockups, I really don't think a problem exists.
The Bartons -- for example -- are spec'ed to withstand 85°C before physical damage, and in reality they lock up and throw errors way before you get near the temperatures than can cause actual damage.

Athlon XPs are designed to withstand temp up to 90C.. that's what they said. but your temps, i think, are just normal. if you think you have installed the HSF properly with thermal paste, you have nothing to worry.

If you are refering to asus probe, like sisoft sandra readings differ from reading in cmos. To check temps in cmos hit del key at start up and navigate to hardware monitor. |

It's minor point, but not all model Athlons are rated to 90°C:
Model 6 90°C (Palomino)
Model 8 266mHz - thru 2100+ 90°C, 2200+ 85°C (TBred)
Model 8 333mHz - 2600 and up 85°C (TBred)
Model 10 85°C (Barton) |
