| P4 steppings clarification plz
I'm a bit confused about the steppings on P4 processors. Unless I'm mistaken, the "A" has a 100MHz FSB, the "B" has 133, and the "C" has 200.
Now I heard that the Prescotts are going to be "E." What happened to "D"? Or am I wrong and the Prescotts aren't "E"? |

Steppings are revisions or versions of the chip. each chip has 2 or three 'versions'. Depending on the 'version' (stepping) that you get, the more overclock you can get out of it. Otherwise, its quite minor. The letter trio, A, B, C refers to the front side bus (fsb) of the chip. If someone says that they have a 2.8c or a 2.4c, it means that chip has a 800fsb. If they say they have a 2.4b, it means it has a 533fsb, ect. (Just about each chip from intel upto 3.0Ghz each has differnent fsb's) Quick rundown:
whenever you see the following letter after a processor speed, it means:
a - 400mhz FSB
b - 533mhz FSB
c - 800mhz FSB
Yes, there are two versions of the 2.8 prescott. One is 533fsb(b), and one is 800fsb(c). All other prescotts are 800fsb(c) |

Ah, okay, I get it now. I thought the letter tells the stepping. Thanks! |

Lol, NO im not gonna try that ... god....... that would be like... 50Ghz... *faints*. I know what the differnces are on them. 800fsb means for everything. pci agp, etc. the cpu gets a 'piece' of the 'pie'. |
