too warm? thinkin of gettin a HS & F - Tech Support Forums

well i got my AMD 2500+ and it runs great

as concerning temp, it's runnin around 41 degrees C, and all i've been doin the last hour is surfing the internet, when i do some gaming, the temp can rise to around 50 C say in about an hour. i'm figuring 38C idle is normal and 45C should be for full load, but what do you say? using the stock fan right now, this case was not made for good air flow...

anyways what heatsink and fan should i get to get a LOWER temperature? or do i even need it? i was looking at the thermaltake volcano 11+

Congrats on getting your processor!

That temp sounds fine to me. My 3000+ Barton runs at about 49-50c idle and 54-55c under load (used to be up around 64c under load before I got my 4 case fans...

). That's with stock HSF. I read a pdf somewhere from AMD that says that 60c is well within specifications...

The new heatsink will provide good heat dissapation and is well worth it espaically if you do alot of gaming. Any thermaltake would work well, also zalman is a good brand. From those heatsinks you'll get a 5C-10C decrease (very good). Good luck with a heatsink.(sorry for the miss-spellings I'm very tired)

really? from my point of view, anything that is that warm and can burn me is too hot and should be cooler!!! lol

42C right now, been fifteen minutes since the last post, might want to put the side case back on!!

i guess i wont need a HS and F unless i'm going to OC, right?

*edit* got your post after i posted cysus, it is a good thing to do keeping your system cool...

50c isn't terrible, but it could be better (of course, this is coming from a thermo-phobe)...before ponying up for a new hs/fan, you might try taking one of your side panels off and then checking your temps...if they drop significantly, you'll need better case ventilation.
My barton 2800+ runs 37c idle/43c load, but I run with the side panel off (til my new case gets here)...with the panel on, I was at 41c idle/49c load...
Also, assuming you're reading your temps through bios, you might double-check them with a third party utility such as sandra or motherboard monitor...

not to be mean but my P4 2.4ghz cpu is only 34C (94f) right now with the stock hs/f and with no thermal paste and never gets above 46C, however the P4s come with a thin layer of"logo" than melts and as far as I'm concered acts as/is thermal paste.

My Barton 2500+ with stock hsf oc'd to 3200+ (2200mhz) and running F-a-D nonstop never gets above 47C(116F). I have a Thermaltake XaserII case, very quiet. I think you need to increase airflow into the case. My case temp is always the ambient temp. 69f(21c) right now. More large slow fans. put them on a speed pot or a smart PS. All my old boxes had loud 2 or 3 fast 80mm case fans. Now I am refitting them for F-a-D. Good crunching.
