Newbie wanna overclock

Hello all...great froum here. I have a Barton 2500 on an ASUS A7N8X-E mobo and 1 gig of pc 3200 ram. I have a vornado 9 cpu fan. How fan can I comfortably overclock this setup?

And if anyone has overclocked with this MOBO can you tell me how...step by step.

Thanks

That's about 32c. That is very cool. High 40's is still very safe.

You should be able to go to the advanced settings in the bios and change the fsb. It should be at 166 and you should be able to get it to 200. Just raise it a few mhz at a time and then allow it to restart. As long as it keeps booting up windows you should be ok. You are going to want to download something like 3dmark03 to check your systems stability.

Steps
1) Get into the bios and push the fsb up a litte (5mhz or so)
2) Save and exit the bios and let windows start
3) If windows doesn't boot you have gone too high and need to step the fsb down a little
4) run 3dmark03 - if the test completes then the system should be pretty stable
5) repeat these steps until you reach 200fsb (if you can)

I have heard that this board won't go much above 400mhz but let us know how you are doing.

Welcome to Techimo and check your PM

you also need to up the vcore a tiny bit probably to make it more stable. it makes it warmer yes, but more stable. i wouldn't go higher than 1.75v though myself

A friend told me that my USB 2.0 Card and my Firewire card might cause me problems with overclocking.....Is that true?

Take them out and find out. Removing a couple of PCI cards isn't hard. I haven't heard of anything like that before but I guess it is possible.
