| BOGUS Undeliverable email
Starting yesterday afternoon, my junkmail folder (in Outlook Express) began receiving email with the following subject line:
Undeliverable email MAILER-DAEMON@yahoo.com
Your message could not be delivered
etc, etc.
In the text message I get all these bogus email addresses I'm suppose to have emailed. Total baloney. I'm certain someone who has my email address in their address book has become a "bonehead" and opened a similar email, unleashing this MESS on me and others. Anyone else getting this? Each time I've accessed my email today, I've gotten about 5-15 of these, all generated within seconds of each other. All of them have attachments, that only an idiot would open. I've trashed them all. It's more of an annoyance than a threat, but it really tees me off.

Wow! Same stuff! I had two more of them along with your "real" email. I'm 100% certain, that if I opened the attachment or clicked on any of the links, I would unleash some slimey virus. I'm just hoping they will eventually go away. Would love to find the source though. I would be Steven Segal and Chuck Norris rolled into one

Someone who has you in their address book has got a virus and it sends out such messages in an attempt to spread to other computers. |

Some how, setup a filter for "MAILER-DAEMON". Reject or have any mail for this part address to be put in the deleted folder.
Cheers!

I set an email "form letter" to most everyone I could think of, in hopes of finding patient zero. It started somewhere. Included the link for Tend Micro. Many of my friends and family are pretty computer literate, but some have kids who know just enough to be dangerous I had to educate my 3 kids on the do's and don'ts of installing every plug-in on the internet. I hope this will help me trace the source. I'll keep everyone posted.

Yah best bet would be open it with your firewall and antivirus software off and then have fun.... not. See if there is a way to block the email address so that it goes straight to recycle bin.

I am MOST happy to report that I will be going from about 100-150 junk mails per day........(I send them to a bulk folder but the problem is that ever once in a while, I get REAL mail there so I still have to comb thru it before I can just empty the folder...........sucks.......royally!). Soooooo.....now I'm switching to broadband and my dial-up addy will be dumped and about 100-150 junk mails per day can simply DIS-A-FRIGGIN'-PPEAR!!!!! Thank the good Lord!!
I'm trying really hard to avoid this in the future with the combination of ZoneAlarm all over my e-mail and a hotmail account to detour as much of the junk as I can. I have no problem deleting EVERYTHING in a hotmail account........ |

I've happily had the same email account from Microsoft for nearly 9 years. I've been through several ISPs, even moved from California to Maryland in 1998. I really can't complain. Even though I've been provided with new email addresses from my ISPs, my MSN account is free (I do some evaluation on their apps), and until I got this bogus email, my SPAM has been next to nothing since last November. All my email also goes to my bulk mail folder, and like you, I need to look through it for legitimate messages to me. Like ones from this forum. If I can get this bogus email to stop, I'll be a happy camper again

I would say if you're switching to a new email addy BE MORE CAREFUL WHERE YOU ENTER YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS!
I've had the same @msn.com address for a long time and i only get 1 or 2 spams every week. and the junk mail filter puts that stuff in the junk folder.
one of the things i like about outlook over express is the autopreview. this way i can see what is in the message without having to use the preview pane. plus theres a great spam filter for outlook called spambayes thats free, and works great. |
