Question
Programs close automatically

I've been having this problem for a couple weeks now. Whenever I try to open some programs (WMP or Medal of Honor) they open briefly and then close. I kept the task manager open to check out what was going on and i saw that the program did come up in the process menu but then went away. Im wondering if this is a virus, worm, trogan, or what? I've tried using Nortan, A squared, housecall antivirus, and a bunch of spyware removes. These did move many trojans from my computer but the problem still persists. I was wondering if anybody could help. I have my hijack log if anybody would like to see it. Thanks.

Yea. I had that problem with a customers computer and it turned out to be a back door to shut off the virus program and open up some ports. Run a scan and try using the McAfee free program that removes 52 trojans and variants.. called Blister?

Send a message via AIM to rpertusio
Have you run DirectX diagnostics?

start menu -> run -> dxdiag

Sometimes I see this happen when people run 'remote control' software, including NetMeeting. Have you installed anything recently like that?

Do you see any warnings/errors in the event logs?
start menu -> run -> eventvwr.msc

thronka, i couldnt find this mcafee virus scanner, but do you think it will catch things all the other ones I used didnt?

rpertusio, the only thing i installed like that might be a speech application from word. I looked in my event log and see many errors and warnings. What does all those tell me?

bill, the link for "The Cleaner" didn't work for me.

if you dont have antivirus get AVG free edition. I'd also recommend Spybot, Adaware, Spywareblaster, and spyware guard. All free.

That link also doesn't work for me... you think the reason these links aren't working for me is because of a virus, trojan, worm, etc. on my computer too? Keep in mind I already ran Norton, A squared, housecall antivirus, and a bunch of spyware removers and found a bunch of harmful files but i quickly deleted them. This is really making me mad because about 10% of all websites i try to go to send me to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\notfound.html" or "http://www.incredifind.com/index.cfm...". Also like I said I can't open some of my programs that I would really like to run: WMP and MOHAA.
