Virus or computer problem?!

Hey all,

I was wondering is there a virus going around that...

-prevents emails from website forums from going thru

I've been having problems with this for a while now. People's avatars that are animated will not animate or will repeat like it's stuck. Threads I have subscribed to will not appear in my mail box

-prevents Norton Antivirus from updating virus definitions

For a good week now I haven't been able to update my definitions. It usually updates automatically but even when I do it manually it doesn't work.

BTW, I will and need to reformat this laptop (not looking forward to it) but at the moment with the end of the semster coming reformat is not an option.
