All you have to do is turn off the service.

They do not remove spyware, they infact install it!

Stick with Ad-Aware or Spy-Bot.
In fact it is not limited to anti-spyware programs, but much much more...
Fake anti-virus, anti-trojan, anti-keylogger, leaky firewall...

To use security-related programs, at least always stick to the known (if not famous) ones. Don't try new unknown anti-XX software. You never know what will happen!!!!!!!!

You've heard the saying you lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
Sometimes I feel like I'm lead heards that won't drink.
A while back I fixed up a friends computer for him. Installed spybot on it and anti virus software. Did my friend follow my advise and run & update these programs as advised. (NO!!!) I just got his computer back a couple days ago to work on what looked originally like a mem problem. As it turned out, he did not update his anti virus (Norton's) and did not run and update spybot either. The first thing I did was run spybot to find that his computer was infested with spyware (mainly gator). Not to mention he downloaded and installed Spyware Cop (in the list of false spyware programs.

Am I the only one leading heards that don't drink.

nope. people are hard to change, unless they want to. otherwise all you can do is advise them and maybe refuse to help them after a third strike. which limit will usually be ignored by oneself. 'okay, but this is the very last time i'll fix it for you'

lol yah these have been around for awhile, make sure you always check with a REPUTABLE group of reviews before using a program. I just found WinTasks because I was googling my running processes, so I searched it and it seemed useful. What do you know, it works, and good too. The programs I use are Ad-Aware SE 1.05, Spybot S&D 1.3, WinTasks, PC-Cillin, & HijackThis. These ensure quite good protection and basically render any random new "spyware cleaner" useless as it won't be needed anyway. Though I have seen a couple of my customers try frantically to download "spyware removal" applications that just bring in more and more spyware lol.

corrupt anti-spyware

Before choosing any program take a look at the list of corrupt anti-spyware software.
The list is constantly updated and clear corruption evidence provided.
