Zone Alarm Pro downgrade to Zone Alarm

My Zone Alarm Pro sub. ran out weeks ago, and I had been considering going to the XP firewall, but now i hear that it does not block Programs outgoing access only incoming. I need to stop certain programs from calling home, so i would like to stick with Zone Alarm.

Now that Firefox and IE have Pop-up blockers I cannot think of a reason for paying for ZA Pro. So can I install free ZA over Pro and keep my current settings. Or do I need to uninstall and do all my program access manually?

I installed Free Zone Alarm over Pro, computer froze after I selected free zonealarm over pro on reboot. Reset system and all seems clear now. Glad to say all settings remain intact.
