Security flaw in Opera?

Using the latest version of Opera, I downloaded a legitimate freebie piece of software. Using the software, when I went to "save project" my realname was already listed on the form. Nowhere do I have my real name anywhere on my hdds, except I have it in Opera's form-fill feature. Any idea how this software got so "smart?" This is a new one for me!

It checked your registry... or.... if you entered your name for your user login or something. it could be done by that...

Whether or not the browser searched your registry - I can't say, but, the Opera password remembering function is called 'Wand', and it can be disabled via Tools -> Preferences -> Security. I have never liked this feature, so I know where you are coming from.

No I didn't have to enter my name, which I don't use for logins anyway. The only other place my name is listed is in Outlook where my name is listed in the "from" field for email. I will check the registry and see what I can find. It's not a huge breach, but it still is something that caught my attention!

FWIW, many browsers will search the browser cache for login boxes and many browsers can track what you enter for form data (such as login boxes).... if he used the same username in another situation, it makes sense that the browser simply recalled cached information, as permitted within the browser configuration. I've used Opera, Mozilla, Netscape, Aiyee, Konqueror and Galeon, I know at least 3 of them will store forms data.

I think he's saying the application pulled his name, he wasn't in Opera at the time at all so Opera's form cache wouldn't apply here.

I'd HIGHLY doubt it has anything to do with Opera considering they would be coding for a browser with a small percentage of total web browser users.

What name is Windows itself registered to?

XP registration, computer "name," network names, all generic. The only place I have entered my Real Name is forms and the sendmail program.

To clarify, I downloaded software using Opera, saved it as a local file (all I did was click on a hyperlink. I installed the file, and while using said software, it references my realname. *annoyed* I am not fearful but I and only I want to say who or what has access to what information on my comp. I practice ultra-safe computing and just want to keep doing that if possible!
