Static Control wins its DMCA case against Lexmark, which argued that an aftermarket replacement toner cartridge infringed its copyright by implementing a "handshake" authentication procedure. (Warrning: this is a complicated legal decision.)

So now, at least in principle, you won't be breaking the law by not buying at the company store.

Lexmark is just too greedy....this is the same company that was trying to remanufacture their ink cartridges a few years ago and was stopped by Lexmark. Well, at least I'm assuming this is the same company because I remember it being based out of Sanford.

The sad thing IMO is that the remanufactured Lexmark ink cartridges cost just about $2-3 less than a brand new one. So why not just buy a brand new one?

Hmm, remanufactured cartridges for my dad's Lexmark are nearly half the price. $16 dollars instead of $29. Can't testify as to the quality but he just needs to print things so he doesn't have to turn the comupter back on.
