| A printer cartridge isn't copyrightable software Static Control wins its DMCA case against Lexmark, which argued that an aftermarket replacement toner cartridge infringed its copyright by implementing a "handshake" authentication procedure. (Warrning: this is a complicated legal decision.)
So now, at least in principle, you won't be breaking the law by not buying at the company store. |

Lexmark is just too greedy....this is the same company that was trying to remanufacture their ink cartridges a few years ago and was stopped by Lexmark. Well, at least I'm assuming this is the same company because I remember it being based out of Sanford.
The sad thing IMO is that the remanufactured Lexmark ink cartridges cost just about $2-3 less than a brand new one. So why not just buy a brand new one? |

Hmm, remanufactured cartridges for my dad's Lexmark are nearly half the price. $16 dollars instead of $29. Can't testify as to the quality but he just needs to print things so he doesn't have to turn the comupter back on.
